Preparation and tools

Before you start assembling, make sure you have all the tools and parts ready. A well-prepared workspace makes assembly smoother and safer.

Tools you need​

Two wrenches are better

With two 21 mm wrenches you can tighten the wheel nuts on both sides at the same time. That gives more even tightening and reduces stress on the axle.

Parts you need ready​

From the kit (GBIKE 1)​

  • Motor wheel with rim
  • Controller
  • Throttle
  • Ignition switch
  • Torque arms (2) with accompanying washers and hose clamps
  • Cables and connectors
  • Zip ties and small parts

Mechanical parts (bought separately)​

  • 26" tire
  • 26" inner tube (correct valve type)
  • 26" rim tape
  • Freewheel (6 or 7 speed)
  • Brake disc (if you cannot reuse the one from the old wheel)
  • Shifter (if your donor bike has a different number of gears)

Prepare the workspace​

Surface​

If you are working on a rough surface like asphalt or concrete, lay out something soft (cardboard, blanket, mat) where the saddle and handlebars can rest when the bike is upside down. This protects against scratches.

Lighting​

Make sure you have good lighting, especially if you are working in a garage or basement.

Time​

Plan for 3-6 hours. The first time may take longer, which is normal!

Safety​

Battery safety - CRITICAL

The battery cables are always live regardless of the switch position.

⚠️ NEVER let the connectors touch each other. Risk of short circuit and fire.

Install the battery only when everything else is finished and checked.

Other safety​

  • Do not wear loose clothing that can get caught in moving parts or greasy chains
  • Be careful with sharp edges on rims and spokes

Checklist before you start​

  • All tools ready
  • All parts unpacked and inventoried
  • Workspace prepared with protection under the bike
  • Read through the entire assembly guide
  • Battery set aside (installed last!)
